Many directors have actors they love to work with, and Martin Scorsese is no different. The legendary director behind Taxi Driver, Goodfellas and The Irishman has teamed back up with Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert De Niro for Killers of the Flower Moon. Making a big splash at the Cannes Film Festival in May, the first Killers of the Flower Moon trailer has been released.
Based on a true Western crime story, the film is an adaption from David Grann’s book of the same name. Adapted by Scorsese and Eric Roth (Forrest Gump), it tells the story of the Osage Murders and the government investigation. Fueled by newfound wealth and greed after oil was discovered on Native American lands.

A true 20th Century crime drama
“At the turn of the 20th century, oil brought a fortune to the Osage Nation. Who became some of the richest people in the world overnight. The wealth of these Native Americans immediately attracted white interlopers, who manipulated, extorted, and stole as much Osage money as they could before resorting to murder,” the synopsis explains.
Killers of the Flower Moon is told from the viewpoint of lovers Ernest Burkhart (DiCaprio) and Mollie Kyle (Lily Gladstone).
“I knew when I heard what [the Osage] values are about love, respect and loving the earth — and I’m not talking about making this into a political issue; I’m talking about really how to live on this planet — it reoriented me every time I heard it,” said Scorsese during Cannes.
The film also stars Jesse Plemons, John Lithgow, Brendan Fraser, Tantoo Cardinal, Cara Jade Myers, JaNae Collins, and Jillian Dion.
An Apple TV film, Killers of the Flower Moon will be released in theatres on 6th October. Apple TV+ customers will be able to stream the movie from 20th October 2023.
