We occasionally see new games built specifically for retro consoles, but it’s rare we see such titles simultaneously targeting a modern system. But that’s exactly what Mega Cat Studios for aiming for with Kudzu, a new The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening inspired Game Boy and – potentially, Nintendo Switch release.
Kudzu is an upcoming Game Boy adventure game that will be released on a physical cartridge. Coming from Mega Cat Studios and indie developer Pie For Breakfast, the game has reached its final 24 hours on Kickstarter. More than 700 backers have supported the game thus far. However, with a little more help the project can reach its $45K USD stretch goal to bring the game to the Nintendo Switch.

Kudzu – A Retro Adventure for Modern Times
Kudzu is a brand new non-linear adventure game inspired by a real-life encounter with mother nature. You are Max, the apprentice gardener. Venture on an epic trek through fields, gardens, forests, villas, and mountains covered with kudzu, an invasive plant species.
Zoen, a master gardener and your mentor has wandered into the fast-growing kudzu field and mysteriously disappeared. It is up to you and your arsenal of gardening tools to hack your way through the overgrowth and bring Zoen back.

Funding the Future of Adventure Games
Mega Cat Studios launched a Kickstarter campaign for Kudzu with a goal of £11,799 GBP. That goal has been surpassed with ease, with a total of £32,927 funding at the time of writing. However, amongst the small selection of stretch goals is a Nintendo Switch port. This second release is propositioned at $45,000 USD (approx. £35,000), so it’s very close to happening!
