Billed as the ‘spiritual successor to Tecmo Bowl‘, the 1987 NES classic, Legend Bowl is set to launch next month. The game is coming to PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S and One, and Nintendo Switch.

The classic Tecmo Bowl is widely cherished amongst North American gamers. The series has seen numerous updates across a variety of formats over the years, and yet it’s still the original title that gamers remember most fondly. Top Hat Games is hoping to change that with the upcoming launch of Tecmo Bowl next month.

According to Top Hat Games, the game offers some of the deepest simulation elements seen within the genre. The game mixtures both retro and modern football sensibilities, with a retro look and feel but many modern conveniences and progression systems.

Legend Bowl Release

Commenting on the confirmation of Legend Bowl‘s release date for console, Top Hat Studios, Inc. Executive Producer Andy Andi Han said the following: “Legend Bowl has been one tough nut to crack. People think of pixel art and retro games as being things from an era where hardware power was limited, so shouldn’t pose a problem today, but in the end the game took a monumental amount of work – totalling over 7 million lines of code to get it working and optimized on console, almost all of it contributed by our company CEO, Joseph Brown. There’s been a lot of anticipation for Legend Bowl and we appreciate everyone’s patience while we got the game into a good state, and we’re pleased that people will be experiencing it soon.”

The game has had its release date for all modern consoles revealed. PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch are all confirmed for 9th August, 2023.
