How many film franchises actually get better with age? Not many, especially when you get past five – we’re looking at you Indiana Jones. However, the Scream franchise has had a resurgence of late. Now it has recently been revealed that Scream 7 is officially happening, helmed by a new director.

Production company Spyglass is bringing the series back for its seventh instalment. This time, however, director Christopher Landon (Happy Death Day, Freaky) will be at the helm. He’s taking over from directing duo Radio Silence (Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett). They rebooted the franchise with 2022’s Scream followed by Scream VI which arrived back in March. Radio Silence will still be involved as executive producers alongside Chad Villella.

Apart from Landon as director, nothing else is known about the film so far – it’ll feature Ghostface, of course. With the current SAG-AFTRA strikes still consuming America’s entertainment industry, it might be a while before further news arrives.

The last two movies were penned by screenwriters James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick. But Landon has also written or co-written his previous movies, so we could see a change there. His most recent movie We Have a Ghost, debuted on Netflix earlier in the year.

The recent Scream reboot, as well as Scream VI, were both well-received by audiences. Managing $138 million and $169 million respectively. The films featured the return of series veterans Courteney Cox, Hayden Panettiere and Neve Campbell. Joining them were new stars Melissa Barrera, Jenna Ortega, Mason Gooding and Jasmin Savoy Brown.

For all you horror fans out there, we’ve also been enjoying the likes of The Nun II trailer as well as the new Five Nights At Freddy’s trailer.
