Film fans have been treated to lots of news this week thanks to CinemaCon 2023 in Las Vegas. While a new trailer for The Flash was released publically, one just for attendees was Dune: Part 2. Starring Timothée Chalamet, the new footage reportedly gives him blue eyes and sees him riding Dune’s massive sandworms.

The first film left off with Chalamet character Paul Atredis and his mother Lady Jessica (Rebecca Ferguson) seeking refuge with the Fremen, the natives of Arrakis. The planet is a vitally important part of the Dune universe because its sands hold ‘spice’, a drug used to aid travelling through space and which turns the Fremen’s eye blue.

An epic finale awaits

Dune: Part 2 will continue where the former ended, seeing Paul join the tribe and earn their trust. But this next instalment will be a little different from the first says the director Denis Villeneuve. “Part Two is more a more action-packed, epic war movie,” says Villeneuve. Adding that it’ll be “much more dense” in comparison to the “contemplative first one”.

The new trailer also highlights a grittier Lady Jessica. With new face tattoos indicating how she has left her royale life behind.

During the event, Zendaya – who plays Freman character Chani – spoke about how the new film builds on the relationship alluded to between Paul and Chani. “These are still just two young people who are trying to grow up and fall in love and live.”

In addition to the return of Chalamet, Zendaya and Ferguson, Dune: Part 2 welcomes back Josh Brolin, Dave Bautista, Javier Bardem and Stellan Skarsgård as Baron Vladimir Harkonnen. New characters will include Florence Pugh’s Princess Irulan and Austin Butler’s Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen.

Hopefully, the new Dune: Part 2 trailer will get a public release soon. The movie’s theatrical release is scheduled for 3rd November 2023.
