Hollywood might still be nowhere near back to full strength, but some exciting projects are being touted. Two come from director Matthew Vaughn who’s currently promoting his latest spy caper Argylle. He’s started teasing a Kick-Ass reboot as well as giving an update on Kingsman 3.

As reported by Entertainment Weekly, Vaughn was at New York Comic Con over the weekend to talk about Argylle. Whilst doing so, he shifted to discuss some of the other projects he’s currently developing once the spy film opens in February 2024.

Kicking ass once again

The superhero franchise will be a complete reboot no longer featuring characters played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson or Chloë Grace Moretz. “Kick-Ass changed people’s perception of what a superhero film is. We’re doing it again,” Vaughn said during the panel. “None of the other characters from the other Kick-Ass are in it, though we’d like to have them back after the reboot. I can’t really talk about it, but it’s fun!”

Considering the first films were adapted from Mark Millar’s comics, the next film could be based around the new Kick-Ass comic series. Millar and artist John Romita Jr. created Patience Lee a few years ago. She’s a mother in her 30s who also happens to be an African-American military veteran. So Vaughn might just utilise this character.

The Kingsman returns

As for the Kingsman franchise, Vaughn confirmed it isn’t over and was keen to get the project going. “We’ve got to get on with Kingsman 3 because I was joking that Colin [Firth] is going to end up being a portrait on the side while Taron is Arthur,” he said. “So we are working on that at the moment.”

There are three films in the franchise so far, Kingsman: The Secret Service (2015), Kingsman: The Golden Circle (2017) and prequel The King’s Man (2021). Currently, Vaughn hasn’t revealed any further details.
