NACON and Simteract studio have announced Taxi Life: A City Driving Simulator. Set to launch available in February 2024, the game will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, but this isn’t yet another Crazy Taxi clone.

Halfway between a simulation and a management game, Taxi Life: A City Driving Simulator offers a unique experience in its genre, enabling players to step into the shoes of a taxi driver while also running their own company. Think Police Simulator: Patrol Officers more than SEGA classic.

The objective is to take your passengers to their destinations all over Barcelona. A large area of the city has been recreated at 1:1 scale, according to NACON. Players can explore the city and earn experience points by discovering new points of interest to unlock new skills.

Of course, all of this must be done while adhering to the rules of the road. You must adapt your driving style to whatever the road throws at you, such as accidents or traffic jams, as well as catering to every last request from your passengers to secure good ratings and generous tips. On top of that, you must develop your own taxi company: hire other drivers, expand your fleet and make the best choices to enable your business to flourish.

Other activities in the game include customising your cars – size, colour, cab, wheels, components and accessories – and vehicle maintenance. You must monitor the dashboard indicators, and take your car into service stations and garages to get it repaired and cleaned.

But wait! Hidden away in the details is another mode. The challenge mode tasks players to floor the accelerator without worrying about speeding fines, or sticking strictly to all the rules of the road. Maybe we will get a touch of Crazy Taxi after all?
