Thunderful and The Station’s popular city-builder and dungeon delver, SteamWorld Build, has today launched on consoles. Gamers on PC, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X|S, on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 can purchase the game now, either solo or as part of the SteamWorld Build & Dig bundle.

The newest entry in the award-winning SteamWorld franchise welds the city-building genre to Dungeon Keeper-like underground mining. According to The Station, the game was been developed for PC and console simultaneously. Thus, every aspect of SteamWorld Build has been designed to ensure that the game works just as well with a controller in hand as it does with mouse and keyboard, bringing a traditionally PC-centric genre to console ‘without compromise’.

Players take on the role of the architect of a SteamWorld mining town. You must break ground and raise houses for your steambot citizens, keeping them fed and providing much needed entertainment. When you’ve established your foundations, it’s time to venture into the abandoned mine sitting under your town. Within is rumoured to be ancient tech that holds the key to escaping impending doom.

Using the natural resources above ground and the abundant ores buried below, you’ll expand your town, stimulate new residential tiers to join the quest to dig deeper. In time, you’ll unearth untold riches and ultimately help your citizens to hightail it off the planet.

SteamWorld Build is available from today, priced at €29.99 EUR/$29.99 USD. As stated above, newcomers to the SteamWorld franchise can also get their hands on SteamWorld Dig for just €5/$5 in the SteamWorld Build & Dig bundle.
