The Street Fighter series has been grabbing many headlines lately. Along with Capcom’s reveal of Street Fighter 6 and the upcoming Capcom Fighting Collection, there’s the rapidly approaching 35th anniversary of the franchise. Having debuted in 1987, it was actually 1991’s Street Fighter II – The World Warrior that is most fondly remembered.

Street Fighter II was the first one-on-one fighting game to give players a choice from a variety of player characters with different moves, allowing for more varied matches. Each player character has a unique fighting style and two or more special attacks. The single-player mode was a fantastically well balanced game for it’s time. However, it’s the fact that a second player can join anytime for competitive matches that really made Street Fighter II a landmark game.
