The forthcoming Nintendo Switch remaster of El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron finally has a release date. Originally revealed almost a year ago, the Nintendo Switch release is a port of the PC version of the same name, El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron HD Remaster. However, as is often the case with good news, there is a catch.
El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron was originally released in 2011. The game launched on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, offering a unique third-person action game filled with a deeply artistic world-building. It carved out a niche audience with its mix of 2D-like platformer action and 3D combat, in an exceptional setting. A decade on, in 2021, the El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron HD Remaster.
This new release added a new visual novel available upon completion, and of course touched-up the visuals. Other than that however, there was little else to sing about. It was the same El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron at its core, for better and worse.
El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron HD Remaster for Nintendo Switch
The Nintendo Switch edition of El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron will be offered as both a digital and physical release. The digital edition will mirror that of the Steam release, co-developed by the same team, Crim. However, there will be two physical editions. A Limited Edition package will come with a few special bonuses:
- El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron HD Remaster Game Card
- Soundtrack CD
- Original Script Reprint
This all sounds pretty good, right? So now, that catch. At present, the game is only confirmed for release in Japan. That’s right, there’s no release date for anywhere outside of Japan at present. Of course, with the Nintendo Switch being region-free, there’s nothing to stop you importing a copy, as the game will ship with multiple language options as standard.
El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron will launch on Nintendo Switch on 28th April, 2024. But only in Japan.
