Athenian Rhapsody is an upcoming comedic JRPG game, set to launch next month. The game is coming to all manner of formats, and delivering to each an unusual take on the formula. In addition to the traditional exploration, turn-based combat and decision-based story arcs, you’ll also engage with some WarioWare-style microgames.
The World of Athenian Rhapsody
In Athenian Rhapsody, you’ll explore the World of Athens. Your goal is to build your very own ‘Rhapsody’, i.e. the story of you and your epic tale in this world. Your story will unfold based on your decisions, for which the developer promises the possibilities extend to the degree at which it cannot be replicated by any other player.
Throughout each playthrough, every decision, action, and event that takes place is recorded into your Rhapsody. The game holds so much variability that no two adventures will ever be the same. The information contained in a Rhapsody ranges from each character you’ve interacted with as well as how many times your protagonist has farted.
You’ll be able to use these Rhapsodies in various ways, such as socialising with friends, accessing special timed in-game event adventures, and maybe even something outside of the game one day.
Athenian Rhapsody is a JRPG at Heart
Athenian Rhapsody is a turn based RPG which includes fast paced real-time-dodging. You’ll be faced with many challenges, and you’ll have to fight your way through the world by either fighting, or awkwardly trying to make friends with your opponents through pick-up-lines, mean jokes, memory games, and other strange and funny interactions.
The game features 16 potential party members. But more than this, there are tons of enemies which you can choose to befriend. Combining the roster of party members and your relationships with each enemy will result in a series of WarioWare-esque microgames based on the scenario you find yourself in.
Publisher Top Hat Entertainment propose that nothing in the game is vulnerable to RNG. Instead, you as the player will choose your path from start to finish, creating an adventure truly unique to you.
Athenian Rhapsody Launch Details
The game is coming to a whole host of platforms. Athenian Rhapsody will launch on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PC and mobile devices simultaneously. That’s a lot of different versions of the game arriving on a single day! And that day? 14th May, 2024.
The development team have also committed to adding more features post-launch. An Online Social System and Event System means you’ll be able to share Rhapsodies between your friends. Timed events will be coming out after the game’s release, so that you’ll have the chance to continue your Rhapsodies. More details on this will be revealed in due course.
