Since it’s inception Halo has been designed as a multiplayer experience. Be that co-op gameplay or multiplayer, every game has supported multiplayer gameplay. And more often than not with split-screen options. Sadly, Halo Infinite did not launch with such functionality. However, it is now possible to play Halo Infinite split-screen multiplayer.
Halo Infinite has seen numerous updates since launching in late 2021. While the campaign is enjoyable, it still needs a considerable amount of work. The multiplayer aspect however, is looking in good shape. The Battle Pass system has angered many fans – repeatedly – but on the whole the game performs well. And now, it is entirely possible to play Halo Infinite split-screen in multiplayer.
How to Play Halo Infinite Split-Screen Multiplayer
Despite being included as standard, Halo Infinite split-screen multiplayer isn’t as robust as in other Halo titles. Most notably Halo: The Master Chief Collection. It is however, perfectly serviceable for an evening’s gaming with a friend.
Here’s how to play Halo Infinite split-screen:
- Log into your Xbox account.
- Load Halo Infinite.
- Go to the Multiplayer menu.
- Turn on your second controller.
- Press the Menu button on the second controller.
- Sign the second controller into a different Xbox account. NOTE: Guest accounts cannot play online multiplayer in Halo Infinite.
- Select your match type and begin searching for a match.
If you’re playing on an Xbox Series X|S console, you can repeat this process to have a total of four players on one console. Xbox One systems can only allow two players. Also, only two players can be in split-screen when playing the Big Team Battle mode, regardless of console.
Can You Play the Campaign in Split-Screen Co-op?
Unfortunately, no. At least not yet. Halo Infinite has delayed the launch of any type of campaign co-op until later this year. We can expect local split-screen co-op to be added to the campaign as part of a series of updates coming late in 2022.
Can You Play Halo Infinite Split-Screen Multiplayer on PC?
Despite Halo Infinite being fully playable on PC, and with full controller support, you are only able to log in to a single Xbox account. This means that no second accounts can be added to play. Developer 343 Industries has never mentioned adding this feature to the PC platform. It’s currently unlikely to be offered any time soon.
