The Metroid Prime series has become one of Nintendo’s most popular series in the west. Now it seems the rumoured Metroid Prime Trilogy Switch release may be closer than expected.

Developed by Retro Studios the original Metroid Prime debuted on the Nintendo GameCube in 2002. Critically acclaimed, a sequel followed in 2004 and a third title launched on Nintendo Wii in 2007. All three titles were then packaged together for Wii in 2009, with the first two games adapted for the Wii’s motion-control technology.

It’s been a long 11 years since the latest Metroid Prime release. A fourth game, Metroid Prime 4, was revealed for Nintendo Switch in 2017 yet there’s still no release in sight. And so it comes to the long rumoured re-release of the Metroid Prime Trilogy to fill the gap.

According to a Swedish retailer, the wait a Metroid Prime Trilogy Switch release won’t be too long. A new listing pegs the title for the 16th June 2020.

Metroid Prime Trilogy Release Rumour

Now a rumour is a rumour. However, this instance is particularly relevant as the listed has appeared courtesy of the website which originally started the rumour, back in 2018. Inet has since removed the listing.

Successfully adapting the puzzle/combat formula of the classic Metroid titles into 3D, Metroid Prime is a very unique proposition. A first-person shooter (FPS) that places as much emphasis on exploration and puzzle-solving as it does shooting, many will be eagerly awaiting the opportunity to replay the classic Metroid Prime titles on Switch. A Switch Pro Controller is essential for FPS titles on the console.

What are your thoughts on this rumour? Launching such a big title in less than a month without even a word of an official announcement seems strange. Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
