FIFA 23 & Call of Duty Top PlayStation Store Downloads in 2022

It’s that time of year when we take a look back and take stock of what the hell happened. This week saw the PlayStation Store release its sales stats as to which videogames were most popular over the past 12 months in Europe and the US.  

Naturally, there aren’t too many surprises when it comes to the top spots. And as per usual, the North American listings differed ever so slightly from their European cousins. When it came to PlayStation 5 owners, in North America Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II topped the listings with FIFA 23 the much more desired choice for Europe. God of War Ragnarök was in the top three for both territories, second and third for North America and the EU respectively. NBA 2K23 was the only sports title to make the upper US/Canada PlayStation Store list at number three.  

Similarly, over on PlayStation 4 (PS4), Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II was number one on the PlayStation Store in the US and Canada, only managing number three in Europe. Us football mad Europeans much preferred FIFA 23, likely helped by the World Cup taking place in Qatar. However, both continents still love Grand Theft Auto V, hitting the number two spot in both locations.  

On the virtual reality (VR) front, PlayStation VR’s listings have stayed consistent for years. Beat Saber is always at number one, Job Simulator at number two, followed by some shuffling around of the other games. However, this year should see some considerable changes once PlayStation VR 2 (PSVR 2) arrives in February.
