In an unsurprising turn, Elden Ring is No.1 in the GfK UK boxed charts this week. According to GfK, Elden Ring sales have smashed the launch sales of all previous ‘Souls’ games.

Elden Ring is a new IP by Japanese developer FromSoftware. While the studio has created many unique titles, in recent years it has become famous for its challenging action RPGs including Demon’s Souls, the Dark Souls trilogy, Bloodborne and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. Elden Ring follows this pattern, but stands alone as the first title in what will likely become a new series.

Elden Ring Sales

The previous biggest ‘Souls’ game launch (at boxed retail) was 2016’s Dark Souls III. Today, it has been confirmed that Elden Ring sales have beaten that title’s boxed launch by 26%. This does not take into account digital sales. Digital sales is a market of rapid growth, so it’s likely that increase will grow once data for digital arrives later in the week.

63% of boxed sales were on PlayStation 5, with 17% on Xbox, 17% on PlayStation 4 and 3% on PC. It’s worth noting that both PC and Xbox formats are more heavily bent towards digital sales.
