For the most part, Hollywood has been shut down for the past few months due to the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike. This has seen the likes of Dune: Part 2 delayed until 2024, while production on Deadpool 3 and Tron: Ares have been delayed indefinitely. And that’s just a tiny example of the movies and shows affected. And as it turns out, Beetlejuice 2 filming was captured in the strike net, only two days before it wrapped up.

Talking to The Independent recently, director Tim Burton revealed how close the team were to completion. “Literally, it was a day and a half,” Burton said. “I feel grateful we got what we got… We know what we have to do. It is 99 percent done.”

“On this last one, Beetlejuice 2, I really enjoyed it,” the director went on to explain. “I tried to strip everything and go back to the basics of working with good people and actors and puppets. It was kind of like going back to why I liked making movies.”

Beetlejuice 2 is Official

One Beetlejuice to go

Even with the delay in filming and the obvious uncertainty regarding when the strikes will end, Warner Bros. is still working towards a tentative 6 September 2024 launch date.

The sequel continues on from the beloved 1988 original, with Michael Keaton reprising his role as the titular Betelgeuse. He’ll be joined by old faces and new ones alike. These include Winona Ryer reprising her role as Lydia Deetz whilst Jenna Ortega plays the daughter of Ryder’s character. The production has managed to maintain a fairly decent level of secrecy, with these Beetlejuice 2 wedding scenes set photos the first to go public.

Catherine O’Hara will be making a return as Lydia’s mother, with Monica Bellucci, Justin Theroux and Willem Dafoe also on the roster. Bellucci is rumoured to be playing Betelgeuse’s wife.

Both Burton and Keaton have been excitedly talking about the film in interviews. “Beetlejuice is the most fuckin’ fun you can have working,” Keaton previously proclaimed. “It’s so fun, it’s so great. And you know what it is? We’re doing it exactly like we did the first movie.”

We’re definitely excited about the movie and hope Beetlejuice 2 filming can resume soon. Let us know if you’re looking for the sequel in the comments below.
