Independent game studio Jukai Studio has announced that its mystery-driven psychological horror game Stray Souls is coming to PC, PlayStation 4|5 and Xbox Series X|S in 2023. Set to be published by Versus Evil, the game will be premiered with a hands-off demo at GDC 2023.
In Stray Souls, player dive into the mind of Daniel. A teenage boy who inherits a home from his estranged grandmother. As he moves in, Daniel meets the enigmatic Martha. Martha knows more about the house than he would expect. As night falls, dark secrets hiding within the dwelling and Daniel’s past come out of the woodworks. Secrets Daniel cannot seem to outrun.
Stray Souls aims to combine beloved elements of Japanese survival horror games with an array of new tricks. The game incorporates a variety of randomised systems where enemy encounters, item placement, paranormal activity and even weather patterns are always changing. With this, no two playthroughs are exactly the same.
Jukai Studio has been building the game using Metahuman technology and Unreal Engine 5. As such, characters and environments are “authentically” brought to life.

“We think it’s good to embrace a little evil sometimes, and it has been a pleasure to work with Jukai Studio to bring their contemporary Japanese style thriller to life,” said Steve Escalante, General Manager of Versus Evil. “Stray Souls pays homage to classics like Resident Evil and Silent Hill whilst bringing its own spin on the genre with new technological innovations. This is a game built by people that know horror, from a veteran dev team who have worked on other titles such as Blair Witch, The Medium, Visage, and Road to Hollow Hills – it’s built by horror fans for horror fans.”
Stray Souls will release on the PC and consoles later this year. No official date has yet been confirmed.
