Annapurna Interactive recently published Stray, a videogame where you play a stray cat exploring a futuristic cybercity. Developed by BlueTwelve Studio, the game has received a hugely positive response which may have helped contribute to the most recent news. Stray is being turned into its own animated movie.

The award-winning game is being adapted by Annapurna Animation, Annapurna Interactive’s animation arm. “This is a game that’s all about what makes us human, and there are no humans in it,” Annapurna Animation’s Robert Baird told Entertainment Weekly. “It’s a buddy comedy about a cat and a robot, and there’s such a hilarious dynamic. So, there’s comedy inherent in this, but there’s not one human being in this movie. I think it’s one of the reasons why the game was incredibly popular. That you are seeing the world through the point of view of an adorable cat.”

The Hollywood Reporter reports that this could be the first of many movie adaptions of Annapurna Interactive’s library. So this could see the likes of Twelve Minutes come to the big screen.

Don’t Stray

Annapurna Animation recently released its first animated feature, Nimona on Netflix. Based on ND Stevenson’s graphic novel, the project was originally helmed by Disney. However, production was shuttered after the Fox acquisition. It stars Chloë Grace Moretz as the titular Nimona. She’s a shapeshifter who teams up with disgraced knight Ballister Blackheart to fight the over-controlling Institute.

Stray is considered a short 3 hour game. But its touching tale mixed with satisfying adventure gameplay has earned it a legion of fans. “Lost, alone and separated from family, a stray cat must untangle an ancient mystery to escape a long-forgotten city,” the synopsis explains.
