Last week’s CinemaCon in Las Vegas provided a bountiful selection of movie news. Like the new trailer for The Flash and the Beetlejuice 2 tease. Another franchise rising from the dead is The Exorcist. Making its debut at the event was The Exorcist: Believer trailer giving attendees a first look at this horror sequel.

Like many of the announcements at CinemaCon 2023, the trailer hasn’t yet made it online. However, Variety reports that: “Early word on the casino floor said the new trailer was scariest trailer the studio had ever cut — and it delivered, possessing not one but two girls.”

The Exorcist - 1974

40+ years of Exorcisms

The Exorcist was a cultural phenomenon when it was released in 1973. The story centred around two priests brought into save a girl from a demonic possession. There have been several sequels over the years but none had the same spark as the original.

For The Exorcist: Believer, Universal Pictures and Blumhouse are rebooting the franchise, this time two girls are possessed. It’ll feature Grammy award winner Leslie Odom Jr. (Hamilton) in the lead role. With Ellen Burstyn reprising the role of Chris MacNeil from the original.

Describing the trailer, The Hollywood Reporter writes: “A father drops off his daughter at school; however, she and a friend go missing after school. When they are found in the woods, they seem changed and unaware that they were gone for three days, believing it’d been just a few hours. At another point in the trailer, one of the girls — covered in communion wine — walks into a church during Mass, screaming at the priest: ‘The body and the blood!'”

We’re certainly looking forward to seeing the new The Exorcist: Believer trailer when it arrives. As for the movie, that’s scheduled to be released in theatres on 13th October 2023.
