It has only been three months since it was revealed that Beetlejuice 2 is officially in the works. Bringing back original cast members as well as introducing new ones, the first set photos have now surfaced. And they hint at a Beetlejuice 2 wedding scene.
First published by People, the pair of images show Winona Ryer reprising her role as Lydia Deetz from the original 1988 film. She’s once again wearing Deetz’s signature hair and black attire. The more interesting of the two images shows Jenna Ortega in a bright pink wedding dress. Ortega plays the daughter of Ryder’s character.
Beetlejuice is back!
Fans of Beetlejuice will remember Ryder’s wedding dress scene, albeit in a far more daring red than Ortega’s classic outfit. While Ryder’s character was being forced to marry Betelgeuse in the film, at present, there’s no context as to how this particular wedding scene will play out.
Taken on the set of Beetlejuice 2 in Hertfordshire, England, the photos do finally confirm that filming has begun. As Beetlejuice 2 is slated for 2024 expect to see more set photos surface over the summer.
Details regarding the sequel’s plot have still to be divulged, but it’s fair to say it’ll be a direct sequel. Not only do you have Deetz and her daughter, but Catherine O’Hara – Lydia’s mother – will be making a return. Naturally, Michael Keaton will be reprising his role as Betelgeuse.
Also new to the cast will be Monica Bellucci who is slated to play Betelgeuse’s wife, alongside Justin Theroux and Willem Dafoe.
Talking about the project, Keaton has previously remarked that Beetlejuice 2 will be close to the original. Referring to the fact that director Tim Burton will use practical effects rather than CGI. “We both agreed, if it happens [the movie], it has to be done as close to the way we made it the first time,” Keaton said.
