After years in production, Zack Snyder’s latest movie extravaganza Rebel Moon is gearing up for launch. Set to be released in two parts on Netflix, the first is coming to the streaming service in December. Now you get to see it in action, with the first Rebel Moon trailer now available.
Best known for movies including 300, Man of Steel, and Army of the Dead, Snyder’s latest is another epic adventure. It stars Sofia Boutella (The Mummy, Kingsman: The Secret Service) as Kora, a mysterious stranger living among the villagers of a peaceful colony. When the community is threatened by the armies of a tyrannical ruling force she becomes their best hope for survival.
The Rebel Moon saga begins
Narrated by Anthony Hopkins, this initial Rebel Moon trailer is jam-packed with action all the way through. Eschewing a Dune feel, we see Kora assemble a small band of warriors — outsiders, insurgents, peasants and orphans of war from different worlds.
“I have a love of team-building movies,” said Snyder in a statement. “Even in college where they would ask us what kind of a movie we were going to make when we get out of school, I think I probably said, ‘I’m going to make a movie space team-building underdog movie.’ ”
When it came to Boutella’s leading role, Snyder reveals: “I pitched her from the beginning. I had her in mind for some reason. That happens to me with casting. I’ll see someone and be like, ‘I’m going to put them in a movie. I’m going to figure it out.’ ”
Hopkins stars as a robot named Jimmy, whilst the rest of the cast includes Doona Bae, Ray Fisher, Staz Nair, Michiel Huisman, Charlie Hunnam, E. Duffy and Djimon Hounsou.
The first part of Rebel Moon, titled A Child of Fire arrives on Netflix on 22nd December 2023. Part two, called The Scargiver debuts on 19th April 2024.
