It was confirmed in August that Scream 7 would become a reality. The successful horror franchise has been going since 1996, helmed by stars including Courteney Cox and Neve Campbell. However, Campbell didn’t appear in the Scream 6 owing to a pay dispute with Paramount Pictures. However, as she plays such a core role within the franchise, could Neve Campbell return in Scream 7?

Even though Cox’s character Gale Weathers was the only legacy to remain in Scream 6, Campbell’s character Sydney wasn’t entirely left out. She was still mentioned, with Weathers explaining that Sydney went into hiding with her family. Rather than facing Ghostface once again. That easily leaves the story open for her return, so long as Campbell and Paramount can come to an agreement.

The pay agreement may not easily be resolved, however, considering current industry pay disputes. The SAG-AFTRA strike has engulfed Hollywood and currently has no end in sight. Actors, writers, and many more are involved, aiming for better working conditions and equity.

But what is a Scream movie without Sydney? Campbell is essentially the face of the franchise so going forward fans would love to see her return. Another aspect of Campbell’s possible return surrounds her other TV projects. She’s been starring in The Lincoln Lawyer and Twisted Metal. But it was recently announced she won’t be returning to the role of Maggie McPherson in The Lincoln Lawyer for season three. While Twisted Metal has yet to be renewed for season 2. Thus freeing up the possibility of a Scream 7.

As for the movie itself, Scream 7 will be helmed by director Christopher Landon. No other details have been revealed so far but we’d expect new and familiar faces alike. Melissa Barrera, Jenna Ortega, Mason Gooding, and Jasmin Savoy Brown are expected to make a reappearance.
