Over the past week or so PC and Xbox players have been spending countless hours in creature collector Palworld. It has taken the gaming community by storm even though it’s still in early access. If you’re after a less cartoony, real-world alternative, then Merge Games and Maximum Entertainment’s upcoming Smalland could fill that gap.
Smalland: Survive the Wilds is an open-world adventure in miniature. Join the tiny race of Smallfolk who are trying to survive a hostile wilderness left behind by the giants. As a tiny explorer, you can tame and ride all sorts of creatures that look monstrous when scaled up, from lively grasshoppers to the more leisurely geckos.
A grand Smalland
Smalland: Survive the Wilds features a rich variety of biomes to explore, from lush forests to arid deserts with venomous threats. Every object and challenge you encounter is magnified, cracks in roads become cavernous valleys whilst trees are now huge skyscrapers to scale.
To survive you have to craft armour and weapons to deal with the plethora of creatures you’ll encounter. Some can be tamed and used as protection, others pose a deadly threat. Thankfully, just like the Palworld multiplayer, you can be joined by eight other players, ensuring a more social experience.
No survival game is complete without a base. You’re able to claim a Great Tree to design and build a base that will follow you to any world. Building your encampment on the ground or in the canopy.
Smalland: Survive the Wilds has been available on Steam Early Access for almost a year now. An official launch for PC, PlayStation and Xbox consoles will take place on 15th February 2024. Physical versions will be available worldwide for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
