Like a lot of films that began production during the summer, action-blockbuster Deadpool 3 saw its production indefinitely halted. All due to the Hollywood strike action that’s still ongoing and pushing release schedules back. While it’s highly unlikely the film will make its original May release window, director Shawn Levy has offered a small nugget of information. And that is Deadpool 3 very much being a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
More specifically, Deadpool 3 will have its place within the sprawling MCU Multiverse Saga. Speaking with Josh Horowitz on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Levy said: “I’m so wary of giving anything away because I’ve learned the hard way that even with a few titles – like any Marvel title – everything and anything you say can lead to not only rumours but misinformation. I’ll just say this: It’s very much part of the MCU, what a privilege, what a wealth of resources and knowledge.”
An MCU Deadpool
It’s an important piece of information as the first two movies were essential standalone. They included crossovers with the X-Men franchise but were never interwoven with any of the other MCU films. This has big implications across all the IPs because the earliest piece of info regarding Deadpool 3 was the inclusion of Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine. So this could well see the X-Men rebooted into the saga.
The halt in production has stoked the rumour fire even further which Levy is well aware of.
“The biggest thrill for Hugh, Ryan, and I is that we’re making very much the movie we hoped to make,” Levy continued. “One hears rumours all the time – good, bad, everywhere in between – about what certain studios are like to work at I’ll just say that this Deadpool movie co-starring Wolverine is very much aligned with the DNA Of the Deadpool franchise and there’s been nothing but support in making the movie audacious, gritty, hilarious and gnarly.”
With the Hollywood writer’s strike delaying production, Deadpool 3 could very well join the likes of Mission Impossible 8 in 2025.
