7 Top Tips for How to Get Started with Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth
Farm for EXP, SP, and AP
While Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is a very modern RPG, it is still an RPG. As such, farming experience points (EXP) is always going to help you in the long run.
There’s also Ability Points (AP) and Skill Points (SP). The former improves your use of Materia, while the latter allows you to unlock new abilities. Don’t be afraid to take on some tougher enemies early on to ensure you’re boosting these rewards. You’ll also find reward boosting Materia in the game, and it’s highly recommended that you equip these as soon as you gain them!
Enemies Respawn Quickly
Hand-in-hand with the above EXP farming, it’s good to know just how quickly enemies will respawn. When leaving an area, you simply need to walk a short distance in the next before returning to find the enemies will have respawned. If you find an encounter that rewards high EXP, there’s no shame in repeating it!
Furthermore, Fiend Sightings are replayable. Even after meeting all of Chadley’s objectives, they can be reactivated and offer healthy doses of EXP for completion.
Activate Remnawave Towers to Reveal the Map
Moving onto exploration, upon visiting new regions and locations for the first time your map will be empty. It will fill up as you explore. However, there’s an alternate to simply running around: Renmawave Towers.
Renmawave Towers appear in many areas of the game. As soon as you arrive in a new area, check if you can see a Renmawave Towers, and if so make that your first point of call. Head to their location and activate them to reveal data points on the map.
Ride Mounts to Get Around Fast
As could probably be predicted, riding Mounts is a great way to travel fast. There are numerous mounts available in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, however it’s the humble Chocobo that’s our top pick.
This is because Chocobo’s also have the ability to dig for items. When a ‘?’ appears over their heads, that means there’s an item nearby. Follow the scent to gain new items. Mostly they’ll just add to your stock, but occasionally they can be surprisingly valuable treats!
Explore Areas Thoroughly
Sticking with the subject of finding items, be sure to explore every area thoroughly. You’ll frequently find high value items – including new Materia – hiding in plain sight. Whenever you’re exploring, be sure to look around the area before engaging in any other activities. You never know when you might find a chest or other items just lying around.
It’s also worth noting that your party can swim in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. Should you find a small island somewhere off the coast, it’s often worth your time swimming out to it. You never know what treasures may lie in wait.
Don’t Horde Items
Diving deeper into loot, don’t be afraid to empty your inventory from time-to-time, keeping only what you need at that moment.
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth will regularly reward you with better equipment. This means your amazing item from 20 minutes ago is now practically useless. Sell it! Selling unused items is a great way to earn Gil, which can then be invested in Materia.
Don’t Spend your Gil on Items: Use Transmutation
Now that you’ve sold a bunch of unused stuff, horde the Gil instead of the items!
Transmutation is a feature that allows you to craft items and gear from materials found in the world. As you’re now an expert at exploring and finding such loot, there’s no need to purchase items (aside from Materia) with your Gil. Instead, use Transmutation to replenish your stocks.
