The recently revealed Terminator: Survivors now has an official launch date. That’s great news for Terminator fans. But what about everyone else? What if you’ve only got a passing interest in The Terminator franchise, and are more concerned about how the game plays? Details are pretty scarce, but we’ve got a good feeling about this one. Read on to find out why you should be excited for Terminator: Survivors.

Why You Should be Excited for Terminator: Survivors

Terminator: Survivors is a new open world game designed to be played by up to four players co-operatively. That in itself will sound appealing to many gamers. The thrill of exploring a world with your friends, knowing that around the next corner could lurk an unfeeling killing machine just waiting for the chance to gun you down. But there’s far more to it than that.

Details on exactly how the game will play are pretty thin on the ground. However, publisher Nacon has revealed some tasty tidbits from this upcoming survival game to get you excited.

Survival Games are the Big Thing of 2024

There’s no denying that survival games have become the big trend of 2024. While the genre isn’t new, big hits like Palworld and Helldivers 2 have seen more players than ever coming to the genre. As the audience for survival games grows, there’ more opportunity to find likeminded players to enjoy them with.

Again, details on exactly what mechanics from the genre Terminator: Survivors will use are scarce. However, we do know that players will, “explore the open world to discover the key materials and survivors you need to advance your home base.”

If that doesn’t sound like a typical survival game, we’re not sure what does. While you’re waiting for Terminator: Survivors, be sure to check out Chit Hot’s top picks for the best survival games you can play right now.

Nacon back in the Saddle for Terminator: Survivors

One key element that can’t be overlooked is that Nacon are publishing Terminator: Survivors. This is a team that knows how to handle the IP, given the underrated Terminator: Resistance. That game was developed by Teyon, who have more recently been working on RoboCop: Rogue City. So now it’s up to Nacon Milan Studio to bring us the next the Terminator videogame.

Admittedly, Nacon Milan Studio doesn’t have any experience in this field. The relatively new studio has so far put out two games: TT Isle of Man: Ride on the Edge 3 and Rims Racing. However, it certainly seems as though they are heading in the right direction.

Terminator: Survivors takes place in a new, previously unexplored part of the Terminator timeline. It’s been four years since Judgment Day. You emerge from a shelter, unsure of exactly what has happened. You must reestablish some semblance of society in a world that seems hell-bent on eliminating the last vestiges of humankind. The resistance hasn’t yet been established, but according to Nacon, you will, “meet iconic characters of the franchise.”

Terminator: Survivors is Coming for Your Free Time

Survival games are a time consuming endeavour. Taking inspiration in many mechanics from RPGs, lengthy storylines and, of course, the need to survive – which often results is numerous poorly timed mishaps – they are games to become invested in. Hopes are high that Nacon can deliver a worthy addition to the genre, as the source material seems perfect for adaptation.

We’ll find out later this year if Terminator: Survivors delivers on that promise. The game will launch in Early Access for PC first, and later on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. But for now, let us know in the comments below whether or not you too are excited for the game!
