The upcoming Xbox Showcase, scheduled for 9th June 2024, will see plenty of new content coming from the company. During this event, Microsoft will showcase games from its portfolio of studios, including Activision-Blizzard, Bethesda, and Xbox Game Studios. Over the past few years we’ve had many promises being made, but very little has actually surfaced. Given the turbulent time the Xbox brand has been having of late – notably declining sales and the unfortunate timing of bringing former Xbox exclusives to rival formats – this showcase is arguably one of the most important in Xbox’s 23 year history. So, what specifically do we want to see?

7 Things We Want from the Xbox Showcase 2024

As stated above, there’s a lot of things Xbox has been promising over the past few years. There’s also a lot of questions to be answered. What’s going on with their third-party strategy? Will we see more games coming to PlayStation consoles? What’s the plan for the promised new hardware? Will we see an Xbox Series X refresh? Can we see Marvel’s Blade in action? At this point, simple answers to the above questions would satisfy many of Xbox’s fanbase. However, that’s not what really we’re interested in.

What we want is games. Xbox collectively now owns over 30 development studios. From these teams, we have seen only a handful of releases over the past three years. So, where are they? We know Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is coming this year, plus a big DLC for Starfield. Avowed is also on that list but – this is key – when?

Below you’ll find Chit Hot’s top picks for what we want at the Xbox Games Showcase 2024. Let us know in the comments below if we missed your picks!

Gears 6 Announcement

We’ve known for a long time that The Coalition are working on a new Gears game. Since 2019’s Gears 5, all we’ve seen is strategy spin-off Gears Tactics. As well received as that game was, it’s not the familiar third-person combat gameplay fans are looking for.

Sadly, we know very little about what form the next Gears will take. There’s rumours circulating that Gears 6 will be the big reveal at the Xbox Games Showcase 2024. But then again, there’s been rumours of a remake of the original trilogy doing the rounds for years.

Perfect Dark reboot teaser

Perfect Dark Reveal

Oh lordy, show us some gameplay. Perfect Dark‘s upcoming reboot has been in-and-out of headlines since its reveal back in 2020. And not always in a good way.

Despite the predecessors being predominantly single-player FPS games, the rumours suggest that the upcoming reboot will be a third-person game. Odd for sure, but if it’s handled correctly simply returning to the alien infested near-future sci-fi world of Perfect Dark will be enough for fans.

The game reportedly hit some problems. Big problems. As of last year, reports suggested that the game was still over two years away. Given that other reports have stated the game has been in development since 2018, that’s a long gestation period. We can only hope it’s worth it.

Avowed keyart

Avowed Release Date

We know Avowed is coming this year. Microsoft revealed as much in their Xbox Games Showcase 2023. A year ago. But we still don’t know when this year.

Given that Microsoft is likely to want to attract significant hype for Starfield‘s upcoming DLC, and that Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is also coming this winter, where does that leave Avowed?

The current rumour pegs Starfield‘s Shattered Space DLC as September and the next Call of Duty in October. Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is expected in December, so that leaves November for Avowed? Hopefully, we won’t have too long to wait to either confirm or refute this rumour.

Contraband logo

Contraband Reveal

Much like Perfect Dark, all we’ve had from Contraband is a short teaser trailer. We know a little about how the game plays, but we’ve not actually seen any of it.

It’s a co-op game. It’s Set in the 1970s. Developed by Avalanche of Just Cause fame. All great stuff, but how does it actually play? We haven’t seen or heard anything about the game since its 2021 teaser reveal.

At that point, the game was already reportedly three years into development. Surely it’s going to be a part of Xbox’s 2025 line-up, at least? If not coming this year? So now would definitely be the time to show it.

Halo Infinite keyart

What’s Happening with Halo?

We all know Halo: Infinite had a rough ride. It’s by no means a bad game – and never was – but it certainly fell foul to some poorly chosen marketing strategies. Subsequently, we saw the cancellation of the split-screen campaign co-op mode. And then campaign DLC. And then delays in the promised multiplayer updates. Halo: Infinite was intended to be a ‘platform’ upon which successive Halo installments would be built. It feels like that’s no longer the case.

Instead, it’s highly likely another brand new title is in the works. Whether it’s another core game or a spin-off like Halo Wars remains to be seen. However, with the Xbox’s once king franchise now languishing, it’d be a good time to start that hype train.

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion keyart

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remake

A The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion remake has been rumoured for quite some time. With The Elder Scrolls VI still reportedly years away, and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim having been released on near every format of the last 15 years, where’s next for the series to go?

Todd Howard, executive producer at Bethesda Game Studios, has previously stated that an Oblivion remake wouldn’t be a simple graphical update. That systems and mechanics in the game had become antiquated since its release. I’m not arguing on that one, though it is still enjoyable. If there’s truth in the rumours of an Oblivion remake – and the fact that it’s coming soon – we should all be excited.

Fallout: New Vegas keyart

Fallout 3 & Fallout: New Vegas Remakes

A long shot for sure, but given the recent success of the Fallout television series, there have been more rumours. Reportedly, Microsoft want to get more Fallout into the hands of gamers as soon as possible. And who could blame them? Trouble is, Bethesda already have Starfield, The Elder Scrolls VI and the above rumoured Oblivion remake on their hands.

So the current rumour is that rather than a brand new Fallout game, we’re likely to be getting remakes of both Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas. Now, it’s more than possible that – if true – it’ll be a purely cosmetic update. But that’s fine, right? Both games are fantastic in their own right, and still hold up today.

So that’s out top picks for the upcoming Xbox Games Showcase 2024. We’re certain that many of you have a different opinion, so feel free to leave your thoughts in the comments below!
