There have been many actors that have taken on the role of the caped crusader. From Adam West in the 1960s, all the way up to Robert Pattinson in The Batman. One of the most beloved by fans is the star of Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight Trilogy, Christian Bale. However, it seems that Christian Bale himself is less than enthusiastic on his time as Batman.
Bale starred in three films: Batman Begins, The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises. Christian Bale took on Batman from 2005-2012. Now, he has commented on his time in the cowl, as well as his reaction to Ben Affleck taking on the role.
Talking to Yahoo, Bale stated, “I didn’t quite manage what I hoped I would throughout the trilogy. [Director Christopher Nolan] did, but my own sense of self is like, ‘I didn’t quite nail it.’”
That’s a huge statement from Christian Bale on Batman. Especially given that so many hold his performance in such high regard. He does however, seem to have reacted to Affleck taking over in the same fashion as many of his fans.

Talking to Empire magazine (as reported by Vanity Fair), Bale stated that he simply stood there staring at nothing for 30 minutes.
“I just stopped and stared into nothing for half an hour. The fact that I’m jealous of someone else playing Batman… I think I should have gotten over it by now… I’ve got to admit initially, even though I felt that it was the right time to stop, there was always a bit of me going, ‘Oh go on… let’s do another.’”
Bale went even further, discussing he feelings towards the character. Christian Bale was keen on presenting a darker side to Batman, and the impact that would give on screen.
“Batman, he’s this very, very dark, messed-up character. I found when I put on the suit I went, ‘I just feel like a bloody idiot if I don’t use this as a means to kind of [show] his true, monstrous self that he allows to come out in that moment.”
