As Chit Hot reported this week, Tom Cruise’s Mission Impossible 8 has been officially pushed into 2025. But it isn’t the only film that could suffer a big delay because of the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strikes. Reports suggest that the likes of Beetlejuice 2, Venom 3, Wise Guys and many more face the possibility of being rescheduled into 2025.
Unlike Dune: Part 2 and others that have finished production but pushed back due to stars not being able to promote them, these collections of movies are still unfinished. Beetlejuice 2, for example, was almost complete when the strike action happened. Warner Bros. was working towards a 6th September 2024 launch date which is looking increasingly unlikely. The studio is also considering shifting Robert De Niro’s mob drama Wise Guys along, Variety reports.

2025 could be a bumper year
Venom 3, on the other hand, was due to begin filming in July. Sony’s symbiote sequel did have an October 2024 release window. And Universal’s disaster epic Twisters may suffer the same fate, both of which need to restart production soon to make their original dates.
“There will be a number of 2024 titles that move into 2025 and beyond because of production delays,” B. Riley senior media analyst Eric Wold says. “Studios are holding back and not talking about it to avoid showing their weak hand during negotiations. But people are waiting for it.”
The Hollywood writer’s strike may have seen a positive conclusion but there’s still a long way to go on the SAG-AFTRA side. Talks resumed on Wednesday with studios after a two-week hiatus, as the two groups look to ratify a new three-year contract.
Deadpool 3 was another big blockbuster slated for next year that had only just begun production. All of this could mean a very lean 2024 for theatres.
