Matt Groening and producer David X. Cohen’s The Simpsons has been an animated bedrock for over 30 years. The same can’t be said for another one of their projects, Futurama. Fry, Bender, Leela and the rest of the gang are beloved by fans but the show has had a turbulent life. This makes this week’s news even better. As Hulu brings Futurama back for an eighth season in a couple of months.
Futurama season eight will premiere on 24th July, Variety reports. There will be an initial run of ten episodes released every Monday. Hulu has commissioned 20 episodes in total, so it’s unclear if and when the last ten might air.

Futurama’s back baby!
All the original series voice actors have returned. Including Billy West, Katey Sagal, Tress MacNeille, Maurice LaMarche, Lauren Tom, Phil LaMarr, and David Herman. The voice of Bender, John DiMaggio, had previously ruled out reprising the role due to a pay dispute with Disney and Hulu. Thankfully that was resolved, with DiMaggio confirming in early 2022 he’d be back.
“New viewers will be able to pick up the series from here, while long-time fans will recognize payoffs to decades-long mysteries – including developments in the epic love story of Fry and Leela, the mysterious contents of Nibbler’s litter box, the secret history of evil Robot Santa, and the whereabouts of Kif and Amy’s tadpoles,” the official synopsis explains. “Meanwhile there’s a whole new pandemic in town as the crew explores the future of vaccines, bitcoin, cancel culture, and streaming TV.”
Get a taster of the new series in the new teaser below. Hulu is available in the US for $7.99 USD a month with ads or $14.99 a month for ad-free viewing. Hulu isn’t directly available in the UK, however. To access it directly you’d need a VPN. But some of Hulu’s TV shows and films – like the new Predator movie – are made available to international audiences via Star, which is part of Disney+.
