After the successful reboot of the Mortal Kombat film franchise in 2021, New Line Cinema and Warner Bros. Pictures are currently gearing up for the sequel. And new reports indicate that Tati Gabrielle is in discussions to play Mortal Combat 2’s Jade.
Best known for her roles in Uncharted, The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina and Netflix’s You, The Hollywood Reporter says Gabrielle is in final discussions. Jade first appeared in Mortal Kombat II in 1993, as a secret boss character. She’s an assassin as well as a friend and bodyguard to Princess Kitana.

Mortal Kombat 2 production
Variety reports that Mortal Kombat 2 production will take place in Adelaide in South Australia this June. Directed by Simon McQuoid, who directed the previous movie, the sequel will continue Earthrealm’s fight against the Outworld.
“I’m so proud that Atomic Monster is able to bring the filming of Mortal Kombat 2 to Australia,” said producer James Wan, in a statement. “Filming the first film in Australia was such a great experience, I’m thrilled that with the help of Screen Australia and Screen Queensland, we can show off the majestic locations of Queensland and work with the top-notch artistic talent based there.”
Currently, it is expected that previous cast members Jessica McNamee and Josh Lawson will return to their roles. Surprisingly, Karl Urban (The Boys, Dredd) is already on board to play martial arts movie star Johnny Cage.
The Mortal Kombat franchise became iconic in the ’90s thanks to its brutal gameplay. Its movie outings less so, as videogame adaptions at that time were notoriously awful. 2021’s Mortal Kombat fared far better. Not exactly a hit with the critics, the film grossed $84.4 million USD worldwide.
