Today, streaming giant Netflix has confirmed when the sequel to Chicken Run will finally land. Titled Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget the Aardman Entertainment production will be released later this year.
A long gestation
The original Chicken Run was a massive hit for Aardman back in 2000, with Mel Gibson voicing the lead role of Rocky. 23 years later, and it’s Zachary Levi who’ll be taking over the role this time around. Netflix made the announcement via its social media, revealing not only the date but a short teaser video.

The trailer sees Rocky (Levi) panicking when an egg begins to hatch and then run away laughing.
As you might remember, Rocky and Ginger managed to escape the clutches of Tweedy’s farm, eager to start a new life together. As Netflix explains in a synopsis: “Ginger has finally found her dream — a peaceful island sanctuary for the whole flock, far from the dangers of the human world. When she and Rocky hatch a little girl called Molly, Ginger’s happy ending seems complete. But back on the mainland the whole of chicken-kind faces a new and terrible threat. For Ginger and her team, even if it means putting their own hard-won freedom at risk — this time, they’re breaking in!”
Joining Levi’s freed flock will be Thandiwe Newton as Ginger, Bella Ramsey (The Last of Us) as Molly. New additions will include Josie Sedgwick-Davies (Frizzle), David Bradley (Fowler), Romesh Ranganathan (Nick), Daniel Mays (Fetcher) and Nick Mohammed (Dr. Fry). Whilst Jane Horrocks (Babs), Imelda Staunton (Bunty) and Lynn Ferguson (Mac) all make their return.
Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget will be available on Netflix from 15th December 2023.
