Back in April Marvel released the first trailer for its upcoming Captain Marvel sequel The Marvels. Seeing Brie Larson reprise her role as Carol Danvers, this instalment sees her unwillingly team up with two fellow heroes to stop Zawe Ashton’s villain Dar-Benn. In the latest, The Marvels trailer, more of Dar-Benn’s motive is revealed as well as showcasing a far less stoic Danvers.

The Marvels sees Captain Marvel joined by Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris) and Kamala Khan aka Ms. Marvel (Iman Vellani). Kree revolutionary Dar-Benn manages to get hold of a powerful, magical bracelet, intent on revenge against Danvers. In doing so she entangles the Light-based powers of Danvers, Rambeau and Khan. This means that every time either of them uses their abilities, they swap places. So you can imagine plenty of chaos ensuing.

The Marvels team up

Whilst this new Marvel trio tries to come to terms with this new situation, Dar-Benn goes on a planet-destroying rampage. “She’s targeting any planet we call home,” says Danvers in the trailer.

Directed by Nia DaCosta (Candyman), The Marvels also stars Gary Lewis, Park Seo-joon, Zenobia Shroff, Mohan Kapur, Saagar Shaikh, and Samuel L. Jackson. The screenplay is by Megan McDonnell, Nia DaCosta, Elissa Karasik and Zeb Wells.

Originally, the movie had a 28th July 2023 release date. But earlier this year Marvel began changing the release pace of its movies due to what some dub ‘Marvel Fatigue’. Now, we’ll see Danvers and friends arrive in theatres on 10th November 2023.

The first Captain Marvel movie did very well, grossing over $1 billion. As part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) it came before Avengers: Endgame, introducing Danvers so she could play her part in defeating Thanos.
