Codemasters revealed DiRT 5 as part of the Xbox Series X’s forthcoming line-up earlier this month. Following this debut comes a new behind-the-scenes look at how the game is being made direct from the studio.

Key members of Codemasters’ Southam and Cheshire teams break down the past, present and future of the off-road racing franchise. The arrival of the DiRT Rally series allowed the franchise to be split to create different experiences for different audiences. DiRT is the fun arcade-style thrash and win, DiRT Rally is the hardcore simulation.

DiRT 5 Behind-the-Scenes

In the video we hear the DIRT 5 team as they discuss how they’re developing an amplified off-road racing game. The DiRT Rally 2.0 members also give a glimpse of what’s to come for the simulation-arm of the series, with the overarching goal of solidifying DiRT as the leader for all things off-road racing.

A bold, bright and stylish approach to off-road racing. DIRT 5 looks set to be a continuation of the series which brought us Colin McRae: DiRT 2, arguably the best racing game on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC in that era. In comparison to the authentic design of DiRT Rally 2.0, the Codemasters teams discuss what goes into creating those dedicated experiences. Such as how the two teams balance collaboration with innovation and why the decision has made to take this development route.

No specific release date has yet been announced for the Xbox Series X or PlayStation 5 consoles. According to Codemasters DIRT 5 launches ‘from’ October 2020. The game will be available on Xbox Series X, PlayStation 5, Windows PC (via Steam), Xbox One and PlayStation 4. A Google Stadia version will also be released early 2021.

Rally Games on Xbox One & PS4

Off-road racing games have seen something of a resurgence in recent years. The infamous V-Rally series returned with V-Rally 4 and the WRC series has had countless new releases. Only time will tell whether or not DiRT 5 can reclaim the series’ throne.
