The new Alien movie is due to be released in 2024. And if you’re a fan of the franchise then listen up, because original director Ridley Scott has given the next instalment some high praise. Called Alien: Romulus, new director Fede Álvarez revealed Scott’s positive feedback after a recent screening.
During the DGA Latino Summit 2023, Álvarez was onstage talking to Guillermo del Toro, Deadline reports. He explained that Scott is a tough critic – especially concerning his previous projects. Therefore Álvarez wanted the Napoleon director “to see it before anybody.”

Scott on Alien: Romulus
“Everyone gave me the head’s up that Ridley is really tough, Álvarez remarked. “He’s really tough, particularly if it has something to do with his movies. He was really tough on Blade Runner [2049], which I thought was a masterpiece, and he had issues with it because it’s really hard for him because it’s his work…I asked him about the new Top Gun and he’s like ‘Meh.’ I’m like, ‘What are you talking about?’ And he was like, ‘My brother’s was original and this is like eh.’ He really respected it, but you could see how tough he was. So I was like, ‘There’s no way I win this one.’”
Even with that in mind, Álvarez wanted to hear Scott’s response in person: “I wanted to be in front of him and see him in the eye. I didn’t want to get an email where it says ‘Ridley says…’” And that culminated in the director coming up to him to say: ‘Fede, what can I say? It’s f***ing great.’”
That’s certainly the best compliment Álvarez could have ever wished for. Furthermore, it does mean expectations run even higher for this sequel. Especially considering so few details have been released.
Apart from a brief synopsis, what we do know is that Alien: Romulus is slated for release on 16th August 2024.
