Some of the quirkiest and most inventive games come from indie developers experimenting with new ideas. Due to arrive later this month is Orten Was The Case, a time-looping adventure from Oskar Thuresson.
Having spent the last decade working on the game, Thuresson – who was previously lead animator of Hazelight (It Takes Two, A Way Out, Brothers) – is preparing to release the puzzle title across most formats later this month. Set in a fictional mid-90s Swedish metropolis suburb, you control Ziggy, who wakes up one day to discover he’s now stuck in a time loop. Explore Ziggy’s neighbourhood – which was inspired by the developer’s home town – and find a way to break free.

Orten’s in a time loop
Like most time-loop narratives, the regular folk you encounter each time will repeat the same processes over and over again. So you need to hunt for clues and change the outcome of things to progress the narrative. You’ll need to solve puzzles, find hidden passages, and talk to the inhabitants of Orten.
However, Ziggy learns that his hometown has a lot of secrets hidden. It’s also filled with weird neighbours who become increasingly become weirder. Which means he can only rely on his friends and himself. Eventually, you will know how to change the future in just 12 minutes.
With its hand-painted art style and 2.5D design, Orten Was The Case is about foiling a sinister scheme that could potentially devastate the entire world.
Orten Was The Case hits PC (Steam and Epic), PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch on 29th November 2023. It’ll retail for $14.99 USD. Head on over to Steam to try the demo now.
