Satirical superhero series The Boys has been a runaway success for Amazon. While it took some time to get up to speed, by season three the show had most definitely become part of the modern entertainment media zeitgeist. The announcement of a The Boys spin-off series, Gen V, would come as no surprise then. And now, fans of the series can attend special preview screenings for free.
Originally intended to be a feature-length film, the adaptation of the comic book series began development in 2008. Due to creative differences between the crew and the studios that picked up the film, the project was left in development hell. The development for the project was revived in 2016 by Cinemax, which announced that it would be reworked as a television series. Amazon Studios obtained the rights for the series in November 2017, with production starting in May 2018.
From The Boys to Gen V
The Boys premiered its first season in 2019. A second season premiered on September 4, 2020, with the third season following in 2022. A second live-action television series, Gen V, was ordered in September 2020.
In Gen V, young adult superheroes, or “supes”, are tested in battle royal challenges at the Godolkin University School of Crimefighting, run by Vought International. The series is set concurrently with the forthcoming fourth season of The Boys, is set to premiere on Amazon Prime Video on 29th September, 2023. However, you now have a chance to watch the first two episodes for free, ahead of that date.
