Everyone’s favourite web-slinger Spider-Man is currently doing very well thanks to the recent release of Spider-Man 2 for PlayStation 5. But the franchise has much more to offer, with Sony having several movie spin-offs in the works. The latest to be announced is Madame Web, with a new trailer showcasing Dakota Johnson in the central role.

Directed by S.J. Clarkson, Madame Web sees Johnson play Cassandra Webb. She’s a clairvoyant mutant who’s able to foresee the future of Spider-themed heroes. She then encounters three women who all turn out to have Spider-related powers. The bad guy in all of this is Ezekiel Sims (played by Tahar Rahim), who is running around town in a dark Spidey suit. He also happens to have known Webb’s spider-researching mother.

“”Meanwhile, in another universe…” In a switch from the typical genre, Madame Web tells the standalone origin story of one of Marvel publishing’s most enigmatic heroines. The suspense-driven thriller stars Dakota Johnson as Cassandra Webb, a paramedic in Manhattan who may have clairvoyant abilities. Forced to confront revelations about her past, she forges a relationship with three young women destined for powerful futures…if they can all survive a deadly present,” states the blurb.

Alongside Johnson and Rahim, Madame Web also features the talents of Sydney Sweeney, Celeste O’Connor, Isabela Merced, Mike Epps, Emma Roberts and Adam Scott.

As mentioned, this isn’t the only Spider-Man spin-off Sony has planned. Last year it released Morbius, with Aaron Taylor-Johnson’s Kraven the Hunter due in August 2024. And then there’s the third installment of Venom starring Tom Hardy, slated for a November 2024 release. Although reports suggest that could change for a 2025 date.

Madame Web is scheduled to hit theatres on 14th February 2023, making for a perfect Valentine’s movie! Will you be going? Let us know in the comment below.
