The PlayStation 5‘s unique controller, known as DualSense, is undoubtedly a fine controller. In fact, it’s widely regarded as the best controller ever seen on a PlayStation console. And now, it’s apparently being made even better.
While the original version of the DualSense controller is perfectly adequate for all PlayStation 5 games, upgrades are always welcome. Originally available only in white, Cosmic Red and Midnight Black followed soon after. Then, the DualSense controller received some new colour variations earlier this year. The range was expanded to include Nova Pink, Galactic Purple and Starlight Blue.
DualSense Controller Upgrades
These three new coloured controllers appear to be exactly the same on the outside – bar the colour, of course – however internally there has been some changes. To begin with, the internal ports for the analogue sticks have received a minor update. This has been known as a common point of failure for the DualSense controller, but it’s hard to tell if the minor changes made will address this issue.
More importantly however, the Adaptive Triggers have received an upgrade. The springs used to adjust the recoil on the Adaptive Triggers have been thickened. This will undoubtedly improve durability for a mechanical part of the controller that receives a lot of changes in tension.
When used to effect in games, the DualSense’s Adaptive Triggers are a wonderful addition. Ensuring the lifespan of the controller by making this upgrade is a significant and welcome change.
There have been no other meaningful updates to a controller that already stands head-and-shoulders above it’s peers. However, as time goes on and more people adopt the controller, we’re likely to see the minor upgrades continue.
