A new type of racing game is heading to consoles this summer. Classic Racers Elite is set in the 1960’s, and features cars from that era only. Set to be published by GS2 Games, the game is currently in development for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch.

Classic Racers Elite is a racing game that aims to disrupt the habits of the genre. No car customisation (except a livery change), no car setup tuning, no social features and no open worlds. Just back to the basics.

GS2 claims the game will be the ‘first of its genre’. It’s a time-attach racing game (think OutRun), that takes place in the 60’s era. The game is designed around Hill Climb racing, where the goal is simple: you are at the bottom of the Hill and like in rally, you must Climb to the top as fast as possible.

The forthcoming retail version of Classic Racers Elite includes a time attack mode. This is suggested to encompass the ‘full scope of vintage driving’. In a usual fashion, players must race solo to set the fastest time possible on the leaderboards. There’s no word yet on whether Classic Racers Elite will feature a full multiplayer mode of any kind.

The highlights of the retail package, according to GS2 Games, are listed below.

Classic Racers Elite Key Features:

  • 4 car categories, from micro cars to F1.
  • Simcade physic engine for a real car feeling, but with a simple approach and control.
  • 17 unique locations for a total of 50 tracks (variations from the 17 tracks include reversed segment and slaloms). many more to come.
  • Online worldwide leaderboards for each track. Free run mode for improving your times on the leaderboards.
  • Drive fantastic cars from the 60’s.

GS2 Games is promising balanced gameplay, with simple cars to control in the early championships and big powerful monsters towards the end. Classic Racers Elite is set to launch in July 2022, on Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4. The PlayStation 5 version will follow shortly after, in August.
